About Us

We, the founders and supporters of the Albanian American Organization for North Macedonia, unite to promote democracy, constitutional equality, and a federal framework that guarantees full political and cultural rights for Albanians in North Macedonia. Guided by American democratic principles, we aim to mobilize the Albanian-American community as a strong voice in Washington, D.C. and across the Balkans, defending Albanian identity, language, and constitutional rights while advocating for genuine equality, self-governance, and long-term stability.

 The Ohrid Framework Agreement (OFA)

The next chapter after the Ohrid Framework Agreement.

Full implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement remains essential for democratic stability and interethnic relations.

The Ohrid Framework Agreement (OFA), reached as a consequence of an armed conflict and through international mediation, was intended to serve as the foundation for the political, cultural, and economic progress of Albanians, as well as a guarantee for building a genuinely multiethnic state. Today, 25 years later, it is clear that its implementation has been partial, delayed, and often conditioned by the political will of the majority.During this period, Albanians have at times made steps forward, but these advances have frequently been undermined by political regression and the self-complacency of the elites. The Framework Agreement had a clearly defined implementation timeline for objective and functional reasons; its prolonged delay cannot be justified as a natural process. The continuous requests by the Macedonian side for “more time” have gradually diminished the substantive weight of the OFA, while Albanians cannot and should not continue indefinitely to show understanding toward the empty promises of successive governments.

The Fragility of the Ohrid Consensus

The 2024 elections and the rise to power of a government with pronounced ethnocentric rhetoric represent a dangerous political regression. This mindset directly undermines the spirit of the OFA, weakens interethnic harmony, and creates space for destabilizing external influences, particularly pro-Serbian ones supported by Russian strategies in the region. In this context, Albanians should no longer accept the role of a decorative figure in governance.
For more than two decades, the state has operated on an unequal logic, at times declaring itself a state for all, and at other times behaving as the property of a single ethnic group, with equality treated as a political concession rather than a constitutional right. This approach has produced political insecurity and social mistrust. Therefore, the time has come for an honest debate on how the state functions and on new political models that guarantee genuine equality without undermining the country’s territorial integrity. Today, Macedonians and Albanians face a strategic choice: to continue with a semi-centralized system burdened by identity-based tensions, or to build an alternative model that ensures real equality and long-term stability.
In this spirit, the establishment of the Albanian-American Organization for North Macedonia aims to create an organized and internationally influential voice for the protection of the rights and interests of Albanians. Through strategic engagement in the United States and cooperation with organizations influential in U.S. policymaking, the Organization seeks to contribute to the building of a democratic, inclusive, and stable North Macedonia.
Currently, the Albanian-American Organization for North Macedonia is cooperating with several well-established organizations that have influence in U.S. policymaking on the Western Balkans, including Albanians for America (AFA), and remains open to cooperation with all other organizations operating in the United States that seek to promote the Albanian cause.
